OCEANSIDE — Oceanside Deputy Mayor Eric Joyce has announced his re-election campaign for the District 1 seat.
In a February release, Joyce pledged to fight for the people of Oceanside, putting them first. He also said he will work to keep neighborhoods safe, housing affordable, and the environment properly cared for.
“Oceansiders are witnessing a changing city,” Joyce said. “District 1 residents aren’t opposed to all changes, but they want a city that grows responsibly, protects our environment, and makes sure working people and families aren’t left behind. I’m running for re-election to make sure their voices — not special interests — guide our city’s future.”
Joyce was elected to represent District 1 on Nov. 8, 2022. Before joining the council, he served as a trustee on the Oceanside Unified School District board. He holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and focuses on improving outcomes for students and families.
As he begins a new campaign, Joyce said he wants to ensure local residents remain engaged and involved.
“The goal of this campaign is to engage Oceansiders in meaningful and honest dialogue about the future of the city we all know and love,” Joyce said. “Engagement leads to action. When a community is active, representation and belongingness follow.”
Joyce said his campaign will focus on community service and growth through investment in neighborhoods and open park spaces, improving quality of life by making the city more walkable and affordable, and ensuring ethical administration.
“Making our local government more accessible is a mission I’m passionate about continuing,” Joyce said. “I also know we can continue to better leverage city resources to make it more affordable to live in Oceanside. We’ve started and need to follow through with really important work to address street safety, homelessness, youth programming, senior connectivity, and green spaces.”
During his previous term, Joyce said he worked closely with residents and community organizations to promote neighborhood safety. In his current campaign, he said he will continue prioritizing Oceanside voices.
“We are still going out and talking to our neighbors where they are,” Joyce said. “As the stakes continue to rise here locally, nationally, and globally, I am focusing on workshops and educating our community members, so no one is left out in our local processes.”
To launch his campaign, Joyce said he will begin outreach in the Oceanside community through neighborhood meetings and volunteer events.
