NCTD offers free rides Oct. 7 for Clean Air Day

OCEANSIDE — The North County Transit District will offer free rides Wednesday, Oct. 7, to celebrate California’s Clean Air Day.

Rides will be free on Coaster, Sprinter, Breeze, Flex and NCTD+ services, according to the agency.

The annual initiative supports a statewide effort to encourage residents to reduce emissions and improve air quality. NCTD has hosted an annual Free Ride Day since 2018, except in 2021, when it offered a month of free rides.

“Hosting Free Ride Day is important to us because it aligns with our mission to provide sustainable, reliable transportation,” said Shawn Donaghy, NCTD’s chief executive officer. “It’s great for our daily riders to take advantage of, but it also provides an opportunity for new riders to take a trip on one of our modes and experience our robust public transit system for themselves.”

Passengers will not need a PRONTO card or valid fare. To ride NCTD+ for free, passengers must use the promo code “FREERIDE.”

The promotion excludes Amtrak Rail 2 Rail, Metropolitan Transit System services and NCTD’s LIFT paratransit service.

All NCTD services will operate on a normal weekday schedule.

The agency also encouraged riders to use its transit cost calculator to estimate potential savings and sign the Clean Air Pledge.
