OCEANSIDE — A fire destroyed a stand-alone building on the Community Lutheran Church property in Oceanside, authorities said.
Crews were dispatched at 5:08 p.m. Monday to 4507 Mission Ave. and arrived six minutes later to find the structure fully engulfed in flames, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.
The building was used as both a residential unit and additional storage. The church itself was not involved in the fire.
Firefighters attacked the blaze with hose lines from multiple engines and an elevated stream from an Oceanside ladder truck. Crews extinguished the fire in about 40 minutes.
The building was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported. Officials deemed the structure a total loss.
Twenty-three fire personnel responded, including crews from four engines, one ladder truck and one ambulance, along with three chief officers, three fire investigators and one staff vehicle.
The Vista Fire Department provided mutual aid. The Oceanside Police Department and San Diego Gas & Electric also assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
