Fire Department open house planned

SAN MARCOS — The San Marcos Fire Department will host an open house for the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9 on at Fire Station No. 1, 180 W. Mission Road. The open house is an annual event held in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, which was held Oct. 3 to Oct. 9.
This free event will give the community an opportunity to visit a local fire station and talk with firefighters to learn more about the San Marcos Fire Department and fire safety.
Numerous events are planned for the open house. Children will have an opportunity to dress up in firefighter clothing, practice “Stop, Drop and Roll,” and use a fire hose. Adults will be able to use a fire extinguisher on an actual fire and receive helpful fire safety information. Free child fingerprinting will also be available.
“Last year, we had more than 1,700 people attend the open house,” said San Marcos Fire Chief Todd Newman. “We hope to draw a large crowd again this year to help spread the word about fire safety in San Marcos.”
