ENCINITAS — The Encinitas City Council will consider appointing its next city manager at its Sept. 9 meeting, according to a recent city release.
Pamela W. Antil has become the top candidate following a nationwide search to replace Encinitas’ previous city manager, Karen Brust, who retired in June after nearly five years with the city.
If the agenda item is approved, Antil would begin on October 12, 2020.
Since Brust’s retirement announcement, former Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Campbell was appointed interim city manager and worked alongside Brust, according to city sources.
Antil has more than 25 years of experience directly managing and advising local government agencies across the country including San Jose, Palo Alto and Ann Arbor, Mich. Since 2015, she has been serving as the assistant city administrator for the city of Santa Barbara.
“We’re really excited to have Pam join our team,” said Mayor Catherine Blakespear. “Her experience in the city managers’ offices in Santa Barbara and Palo Alto, as well as other cities, gives her a depth of knowledge that will be invaluable here in Encinitas.”
According to the release, Antil holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Long Beach.
“I am delighted to be selected as the next city manager in service to the Encinitas community,” said Antil. “The city council’s plans for the future are ambitious and exciting. I’m eager to roll up my sleeves and get going.”
The city manager position reports directly to the Encinitas City Council and is responsible for the overall administration of city business including providing executive leadership, direction, review and coordination of all city departments and operations.
