Breakfast to explore future of airport

SAN MARCOS — The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, or SDCRAA, and San Diego North Economic Development Council invite the public to a breakfast to learn more about Destination Lindbergh, a 10-month process that takes an in-depth look at what Lindbergh Field will look like 20 to 30 years into the future, and to ensure that the airport continues to support the regional economy for years to come.
The event will take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Oct. 16 at the city of San Marcos Community Room, 3 Civic Center Drive. A complimentary continental breakfast will be served.
San Diego International Airport is a strong economic engine for the region, adding nearly $10 billion annually to the local economy. About one out of every 16 jobs in San Diego County is directly or indirectly related to the airport.
The town hall breakfast will feature opening remarks by Airport Authority Board members and a presentation from Airport Authority staff. Speakers include Mayor
Jim Desmond, an SDCRAA board member; Ramona Finnila, former Carlsbad City Councilwoman and SDCRAA Board member; and Keith Wilschetz, director, SDCRAA System Planning.
Along with its regional planning partners (which include the city of San Diego, SANDAG, Port of San Diego, County of San Diego, Metropolitan Transit System, North County Transit District and the U.S. Department of Defense), the Airport Authority launched Destination Lindbergh in April 2008. The Destination Lindbergh analysis will integrate multiple modes of transportation and evaluate the entire airport, as well as adjacent properties, to yield an ultimate build-out concept. To guide this unprecedented effort, the Ad Hoc Airport Regional Policy Committee, chaired by Mayor Jerry Sanders, was formed.
The committee recently developed a short list of ultimate build-out alternatives for further technical study. A final concept will be developed and presented to stakeholders by February 2009.
