Woman, 25, killed in San Elijo crash two days before Christmas

SAN MARCOS — A 25-year-old woman was killed in a vehicle collision in San Elijo just before Christmas Day, after her vehicle suddenly crossed over the median into oncoming traffic.

The incident occurred on Dec. 23 around 3 p.m. A preliminary investigation found that the woman was driving westbound on San Elijo Road when she lost control of the vehicle and crossed over the center median into oncoming traffic, colliding with another car.

The driver who crossed the median was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other driver was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. The San Marcos Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the collision.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the identity of the victim is Vanessa Mae Strickland, age 25. A GoFundMe set up to offset her family’s funeral costs describes her as a “beautiful person inside and out” who made a lasting impact on the people in her life.

“Vanessa had such a lust for life and brought joy to those around her. She was always there for anyone who needed her, offering kindness, support, and a listening ear. She loved road trips, music, movies, concerts, and anything that involved friends, family, and her beloved dog, Bowie. Her warmth and generosity touched so many lives, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled,” the GoFundMe states.

She was on her way to work at the time of the accident, according to the GoFundMe.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information is encouraged to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station at (760) 510-5200.
