AIRCREW SCHOOL

Carlsbad native and 2023 La Costa Canyon High School graduate Kendall Zachry is an airman apprentice serving the U.S. Navy assigned in the Aviation Aircrew Training School in Florida.

EMERSON PRODUCTION

Oscar Schuman of Encinitas participated in Emerson College’s production of “Bonnets: How Ladies of Good Breeding Are Induced to Murder” in mid-November at the Greene Theater in Boston.

NAVAL DIVING

Airman Matthew Waide, a Fallbrook native and 2016 graduate of Classical Academy High School, now serves the U.S. Navy at the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, the largest diving facility in the world.

NEXT ON STAGE

Jake Esparza, a Carlsbad resident and senior at Tri-City Christian School, is a finalist in BroadwayWorld’s Next On Stage competition.

SCHOOL LEADER

Principal Tina Meglich of Conway Academy of Expeditionary Learning in Escondido received the prestigious Silverberg Leadership Award from EL Education. The award is presented annually to a school leader who has successfully impacted student achievement outcomes.

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Kevin “Blax” Burroughs was appointed as the new artistic director of Oceanside Theatre Company on Dec. 1. He previously joined the company in August as its associate artistic director.

AG LEADERS

The board of directors of the 22nd District Agricultural Association, which manages and operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds, switched leadership roles at last month’s board meeting. Frederick Schenk, previously first vice president, is now board president, Michael D. Gelfand is now the first vice president, and previous board president G. Joyce Rowland is now second vice president.

VALLECITOS BOARD

The Vallecitos Water District’s Board of Directors moved forward with its annual reorganization, selecting  Tiffany Boyd-Hodgson as president and Jim Pennock as vice president for 2024.

FALL COMMENCEMENT

Cal State San Marcos will become the first public university in San Diego County to hold a fall commencement when the university celebrates its mid-year graduates on Dec. 17. A total of 533 students are expected to graduate across three ceremonies, and more than 4,000 guests are expected to attend.
