VISTA — The Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum honored military service members who have lost their lives with a huge tribute — an 11,000 square foot American flag painted on the hillside above the museum.
This is the second year the museum has celebrated the holiday with its huge, patriotic tribute. More than 200 people were in attendance, something that couldn’t happen last year due to the pandemic.
“This all came from a hairball idea in a board meeting,” said museum volunteer TJ Crossman. “This is the byproduct of a dream, of a thought, and it just goes to show you can do anything you want when you put your mind to it.”
Crossman said it took numerous people to make his vision for the flag become reality.
According to the museum, the flag is the largest American flag on the West Coast.
North San Diego County Young Marines provided its Color Guard services at the event, and a 6pc Brass Ensemble supplied the music.
A missing man formation flyby was also performed at the flag tribute. During this aerial salute, an airplane flies overhead of a memorial event in honor of the dead or missing.
