ENCINITAS — A new independently organized TEDx event focused on sustainability is coming to North County later this month, aiming to spark dialogue and spotlight innovative ideas for environmental progress.
TEDxEncinitasBlvd, the first TEDx event hosted in Encinitas, is scheduled for June 28 at the Encinitas Library. Organizers say the daylong event will feature live presentations from local leaders, researchers and activists across San Diego County, alongside interactive installations and community networking.
“This event is not just about watching presentations; it’s about sharing ideas with a community built on care and passion and sparking dialogue that leads to meaningful action,” said Rohan Phadnis, the event’s lead organizer and executive producer. “My goal is to bring attention to new ideas and develop the city’s commitment to sustainability.”
The program is part of the global TEDx initiative, a series of independently organized events under the nonprofit TED organization to promote “ideas worth spreading.” According to Phadnis, Encinitas was chosen for its reputation as a hub for progressive thinking and environmental advocacy.
The theme of this year’s event is “sustainability,” with scheduled talks exploring topics such as climate legislation, eco-innovation and grassroots activism. Speakers are expected to address both global challenges and local efforts aimed at advancing environmental goals.
Speakers at this year’s event include materials scientist and entrepreneur Aaron Bruckbauer, youth climate activist Daryn Tarasewicz, state Sen. Catherine Blakespear (D-Encinitas), Scripps marine biologist and ecotoxicologist Dimitri Deheyn, environmental scientist Carrie Shuster, Canyon Crest Academy sophomore and Youth4Climate intern at SanDiego350 Taarika Sethee, regenerative farmer Katja Reich, and Erlinde Cornelis, an associate professor of marketing at the Fowler College of Business and chair of SDSU’s Senate Sustainability Committee.
The event is presented in partnership with the city, which officials say reflects its commitment to supporting initiatives that align with its environmental values.
