Skateboard rally takes cause to the streets

CARLSBAD — Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the Carlsbad Village Skateboarding Museum and Action Art Center will not be either.
Advocates, however, cemented a stronger foundation for the proposed project June 21 with the first Skate for the Cause rally, which was held in conjunction with the sport’s global holiday — Go Skateboarding Day.
The event, which was attended by more than a dozen supporters from ages 15 to 67, kicked off around 10 a.m. June 21 in front of the project’s proposed site in the 400 block of Oak Avenue. The majority of the group then skated south on the rail trail to Tamarack Avenue and up to Hensley’s Flying Elephant Pub where breakfast was being served.
Plans for the nonprofit museum and art center include a mixed-use development with skateable terrain and digital media classes presented by the Carlsbad Village Art Academy.
