RAMONA — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Cal Fire captain at her Ramona home.
Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on the evening of Feb. 17 in the 20200 block of Rancho Villa Road. Upon arrival, they found 49-year-old Rebecca Marodi suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Despite life-saving efforts by deputies and Cal Fire paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy conducted by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office on Feb. 19 determined that Marodi died from multiple sharp force injuries. Her death was classified as a homicide.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives have identified the suspect as Yolanda Marodi, also known as Yolanda Olejniczak. Olejniczak, 53, is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 166 pounds, with brown hair.
Her current whereabouts are unknown. The nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim remains unclear.
Authorities said the motive and circumstances surrounding the homicide remain under investigation as law enforcement continues gathering information. However, sheriff’s Lt. Michael Krugh told media outlets on Wednesday that detectives “are treating this case as a potential domestic violence incident.”
According to a social media message posted by the agency, Marodi worked for Cal Fire primarily in Riverside County but also served stints in the San Diego and San Bernardino areas.
“The tragic loss of Captain Marodi is mourned by her family, friends and her Cal Fire family,” the agency wrote in a recent post.
Anyone with information about Olenjniczak’s location or the case is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330 or, after hours, at (858) 868-3200. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
