Self-storage helps annual toy drive

COAST CITIES — San Diego Self Storage (SDSS) kicked off its 14th annual holiday toy drive benefiting Toys for Tots in October. The collection will continue through Dec. 18 at each of its San Diego 17 locations. The Marine kick-off event was held aboard the USS Midway. The drive will also host a collection at the San Diego Charger home game Dec. 16 at Qualcomm stadium. During the toy drive, all San Diego Self Storage facilities will also be conducting raffles for a $100 credit toward a tenant’s storage rental. The collection ends at 6 p.m. Dec. 18 with final toy delivery on Dec. 19 and the drawings at each SDSS location on Dec. 20.

“We’re launching our collection campaign this year well in advance to provide enough lead time for families to sign up for toys prior to the holiday season,” said SDSS Managing Partner J. Terry Aston. “Families may visit san-diego-ca.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/request-toys.aspx to sign up through approved local recreation centers by the deadline of Nov. 5 to submit their requests. The list is updated weekly through the deadline date.”

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program delivers new toys at Christmas, with the purpose of sending a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. Last year 136,976 toys were delivered to 126,395 children in the San Diego county area. The Toys for Tots hotline is (858) 967-1269.

In North County, San Diego Self Storage facilities are in Carlsbad, Carmel Valley, Encinitas, Golden Triangle, Escondido, Olivenhain and Solana Beach. Physical addresses and hours of operation can be located at sandiegoselfstorage.com.

By organizing this toy drive, I am sure children will benefit the most from these toys. This is great way to tell people how much you care for them. Informing people well in advance about the collection campaign will give more time to families and they will be in a better position to decide whether to sign up for the campaign or not.
