ESCONDIDO – In just over a month, a San Pasqual High School robotics team will compete against other top teams from around the world after recently winning first place in a regional competition.
The FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3255 – otherwise known as “SuperNURDS” – secured first place and earned the Innovation in Control Award at the 2025 Hueneme Port Regional Competition from March 1 to 3.
According to the Escondido Union High School District, the victory solidifies SuperNURDS as one of the top robotics teams in the world.
The team is currently ranked in fifth place in California out of 291 teams, ninth in the nation out of 2,956 teams, and fourteenth worldwide out of 3,727 teams.
After securing the recent win, SuperNURDS will get to compete against other top teams in the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston from April 16 to 19.
“The work ethic of our students has been truly inspiring and their collaboration while building our robot was exceptional,” said SuperNURDS Head Coach Tayler Uva. “We can’t wait to represent San Pasqual High School at the FIRST World Championship in Houston.”
The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges high school students to design, build and program industrial-sized robots to compete in a game-based engineering challenge. The competition aims to foster STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills and encourage innovation, leadership and collaboration.
The world championship brings together the top 800 qualifying teams from around the world. Competing across eight divisions, the winners will advance for the ultimate title of FRC World Champion. Each team designs, manufactures and builds its robot in just six weeks, making this event the grand finale.
