San Marcos City Council approves annual tax assessments

SAN MARCOS — The San Marcos City Council met July 14 to approve the annual tax assessments for the residents of Landscaping and Lighting District No. 1 and Vallecitos Town Center Street Maintenance District.

The council discussed the levy of the annual assessment for a street lighting district according to the terms of the Landscaping and Lighting Act of 1972.

These will apply to both Landscaping and Lighting District No. 1 and Vallecitos Town Center Street Maintenance District.

The council adopted the resolutions to levy and collect assessments for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2021.

The work to be done for Landscaping and Lighting District No. 1 includes the furnishing of all electric current and necessary labor, materials and equipment for the maintenance of all the existing public lighting facilities, as well as landscape improvements, according to the report.

For Vallecitos Town Center Street Maintenance District, the proposed improvements include the operation, servicing and maintenance of pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk, traffic signals and facilities that are located in and along Center Drive from Nordahl Road to the public terminus and the traffic signals at Center Drive and Avenida Ricardo, Center Drive at Nordahl Road, and Montiel Road at Nordahl Road, according to the report.

The council also approved an ordinance authorizing an amendment to the contract between the City of San Marcos and the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS).

The amendment ensures that local firefighters, members of fire safety, fire management and others will become CalPERS members.

Finally, the council approved changing the time requirements for adding a traffic signal on San Elijo Road at the Loma San Marcos (Edenpark) project driveway.

The city has canceled the next council meeting, which was scheduled for July 28. The next meeting will be on Aug. 11.
