Poetry Slam back at La Paloma

ENCINITAS — The 101 Artists’ Colony and Full Moon Poets will present the next La Paloma Poetry Slam Aug. 11 at La Paloma Theatre, 471 S. Coast Highway 101. Admission is free. The slam begins at 7 p.m., but poets wishing to enter will be let in at the 6 p.m. poets’ call. Doors open to the audience at 6:30 p.m.

The Full Moon Poets Slams are a tradition at La Paloma. All are free and open to the public. The competition is now in its 22nd year. Join emcee Marit Anderson for an evening of poetry and spoken word. Parents with children should keep in mind that some topics and language might not be appropriate for youngsters.

For interested poets, at 6 p.m. all names will be placed in the famous popcorn bucket and the first 12 names pulled will be the line-up for the night. There are three elimination rounds going from 12 poets to seven and the final three for the last round. Prize money collected from the audience will go to the winners. No props, musical instruments, costumes or recorded music allowed. Poets need three of their original poems that do not exceed 3 minutes each. Judges are selected from the audience as the doors open. For more information and rules go to fullmoonpoets.org.

Sponsors for this event are: 101 Artists’ Colony; Awaken the Poet Within; Billy Stewart Foundation for the Arts; Biosculptures; The Grauer School, Mike Romero; Poets Inc. Inland North County; Saint Tropez and Surf Dog/Java Hut.
