Oceanside petty officer broadcasts for Navy

OCEANSIDE — During the 2023 Super Bowl, Petty Officer 1st Class Veronica Scott, a native of Oceanside, will document the Super Bowl from the Navy’s point of view.

Scott, a lifestyle influencer, will create and share content during game day with their already-established audiences through personal social media accounts.

The coverage is part of the first-ever Navy Social Media Ambassador initiative to increase Navy awareness and audience engagement. The program was also used during the Navy-Army game in December.

Scott shares motivational content that educates and informs followers about the Navy. Growing up in Oceanside, Scott attended El Camino High School and graduated in 1996.

“Growing up in a military town (Camp Pendleton), I had an understanding and appreciation for the military culture and a strong sense of community,” said Scott. “I also had access to resources through volunteering at the Naval Hospital with the Red Cross and role models like my father who served in the Marine Corps. Additionally, my hometown instilled in me a strong work ethic, the importance of having attention to detail and a strong sense of patriotism.”

Scott joined the Navy 17 years ago.

“I wanted to join the military to carry on my family legacy and give back to my country,” said Scott. “Serving in the military is a way to show respect and appreciation for the selfless sacrifices made by my family members who came before me. Joining the military is also a way to give back to the country and show patriotism. In addition, I want to leave a legacy and be a great role model for my kids.”

As Scott continues to train and perform missions, there’s a great deal of pride in serving as a United States sailor.

“Serving in the Navy has taught me about unknown possibilities and has shown me that anything is possible,” added Scott. “It has opened so many doors for me, from friendships, leadership opportunities and career development. Serving has also given me an adventure and the chance to see the world while making me more confident and courageous. The Navy has helped shape me into the woman I am today.”
