Letters: Temporary home, same sweet tradition at Gelato 101

My cousin recently came to town to begin his 30-day ice cream tour of California, and we were one of the first stops on his journey. We enjoyed plenty of delicious ice cream, but I was especially excited to take him to my favorite place, Gelato 101.

After a vehicle barreled through the front of the store nine months ago, Gelato 101 has finally reopened in a temporary location thanks to Ironsmith Coffee House. Gelato 101 takes over the space at 3 p.m. after Ironsmith closes at 2 p.m. It’s just a half-block north of the original location, which is finally being rebuilt.

Between the charcoal vanilla, passion fruit and dark chocolate, I loved every flavor. But there was one that surpassed them all — in taste, texture and loving kindness.

It’s called Miracle River, dreamed up by the Gelato 101 owner and the little boy, River, who was pinned beneath the truck last fall when disaster struck our beloved ice cream shop. Miracle River is a chocolate-and-vanilla combination with mint-infused brownies. So delicious!

I hope you’ll wander down and give it a try.
