Lagoon hosts World Water Day

CARLSBAD — The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation wants visitors to be aware of its new hours and upcoming World Water Day.The Lagoon Discovery Center, 1580 Cannon Road, is now open Tuesdays through Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays noon to 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, spring was announced with the arrival of the first swallows. About a dozen were reported seen on March 3 and bird-watchers expect about 250 in the coming weeks, a foundation spokesman said.

Families are invited to be part of World Water Day from noon to 3 p.m. March 23. The day will be a hands-on, educational festival focusing on Water Cooperation, including:

— All Things Agua: Water conservation, educational information on water resources both locally and globally

— Games, crafts, a bouncy house and eye-opening discoveries

— Refreshments

— A free Family Fun Day and opportunity to sign up for the newly created Kids Klub. The first Kids Klub will meet at 10 a.m. April 27.
