Go Army! Go Navy! Go barbecue!

OCEANSIDE — It’s that time again. Time to cheer for Army or Navy in the yearly football showdown. Make this year even more fun with homemade ribs at the Veterans Association of North County (VANC) annual barbecued rib cook-off.

Veterans Association of North County is hosting its third annual barbecue in tandem with the 109th annual Army-Navy College Game Dec. 11 at 1617 Mission Ave., Oceanside.

Doors open at 11 a.m. with the game kickoff at noon. Tickets can include entry, judging of the Barbecue Cook Off, a full barbecue dinner, drink tickets and custom-designed T-shirts. Game only: $30. Game and lunch: $40. Game, lunch and drinks (two draft beers, wine or soda: $50) You can book a private table for up to eight for $400.

Dennis “Rub Master” Thompson returns to defend his 2019 barbecue cook-off crown. Another dozen barbecuers have signed up to produce their best barbecued ribs and shoot for the title.

When told of the large contingent of competitors, Thompson was quoted as saying, “I can’t wait. It is a great fundraiser. With this many cooks, we’ll raise more money and everyone gets to try some of the best ribs in the area.”

All proceeds benefit VANC for Camp Pendleton Unit Christmas Parties. Reserve a spot at https://excelarace.com/army-vs-navy-football-game.html.
