Free preschool for eligible North County kids

ENCINITAS — Chicano Federation has more than 100 preschool slots available for children in North County who qualify.
Chicano Federation’s three Head Start centers located in Encinitas, Leucadia and Solana Beach, are now enrolling children ages 3- to 5-years-old. Children are eligible based on their age and federal family income guidelines. Chicano Federation welcomes income-eligible and over-income children with disabilities.
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services. It focuses on helping preschoolers develop early reading and math skills needed to be successful in school. The program also provides fresh, nutritious USDA approved meals and snacks at no cost to families.
All teachers at Chicano Federation’s Head Start centers hold associates or bachelor’s degrees and are fully qualified for their positions. In addition, the centers are furnished with new supplies and equipment, providing a safe environment for children.
Parents are invited to call or stop by for a tour of the three Head Start locations between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The centers include:
