ENCINITAS — Digital marketing agency Rook Digital has partnered with the city and The Coast News to host workshops that help local small businesses adapt to artificial intelligence and strengthen their digital marketing.
The free R.A.V.E.S. Business Lab workshop is scheduled for 4 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9 in the community room at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive. The session will focus on how AI is changing online searches and how businesses can improve their visibility.
“The workshop will explore how artificial intelligence is changing the way consumers search for businesses online and what local businesses can do to strengthen their visibility in an evolving digital landscape,” said Jessica Gilera, the city’s communications manager. “The topic builds on the city’s May workshop, which introduced businesses to branding, marketing, and search engine optimization and marketing strategies. … By bringing industry experts and practical education directly to our community, we’re helping businesses adapt, stay competitive, and reach new customers.”
Chris Kydd, publisher of The Coast News, said the event is intended to help local businesses respond to changes in how customers find them online.
“Part of our mission is to serve the local business community with marketing solutions that work,” Kydd said. “We know AI search is growing, so we brought our referral partners at Rook Digital, experts on the subject, to come to town and help our businesses compete better online and with AI search.”
The workshop is part of the city’s broader effort to connect businesses with resources and support, said Delilah Welnick, the city’s economic development analyst.
“Through our R.A.V.E.S. Business Program … we’re focused on giving businesses the tools, connections, and support they need to succeed,” Welnick said.
“We want every business to see the city as a resource and partner in building a strong, resilient local economy,” she said.
Gilera said the city’s economic development efforts include supporting existing businesses through individual visits, workshops and meetings with city leaders.
“The city’s approach emphasizes meeting businesses where they are, whether through one-on-one visits, group learning opportunities, or direct engagement with city leadership,” Gilera said. “Economic development isn’t just about attracting new businesses. It’s about investing in the businesses that are already here, understanding their challenges, and creating opportunities for them to succeed.”
The city also hopes to raise awareness of the assistance available to business owners.
“We want businesses to know that City Hall is more than a place to obtain permits or licenses,” Gilera said. “We want to be a resource, a partner, and a connection to opportunities that help our business community grow. From individual business visits to educational workshops, technology platforms, and the Business Commission, the city’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to supporting a resilient and thriving local economy.”
