CARLSBAD — A 54-year-old Carlsbad man was killed when he crashed an SUV into a concrete wall in a Carlsbad neighborhood, police said today.
The crash happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday on Breakwater Road between Catamaran and Tradewinds drives, east of Carlsbad Boulevard, Carlsbad police Lt. Steve Thomas said.
The driver, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was heading eastbound on Breakwater Road when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his 2019 Cadillac Escalade SUV and crashed into a concrete block wall that separates the road from the railroad tracks nearby, Thomas said.
The driver, who was the SUV’s only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene, the lieutenant said.
