DEL MAR — Although Del Mar incorporated in 1959, city leaders did not adopt the first Del Mar Community Plan to guide future development until 1976.
The plan continues to provide the framework for new construction and the restoration of existing structures.
To commemorate the plan’s 50th anniversary, the city will host a reception following the Sept. 8 City Council meeting. Community leaders involved in drafting the original plan will share memories of the process, Mayor Tracy Martinez will read a proclamation, and cake and coffee will be served.
The council meeting begins at 4:30 p.m., with the anniversary ceremony tentatively scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Meetings are held at Del Mar Town Hall, 1050 Camino Del Mar.
