Commentary: Why to Vote No on L

By Nadine Scott, Friends of Loma Alta Creek

By now you have gotten tons of political mail flooding your mailbox and on your social media. Perhaps the most concerning one locally is the flyers from Yes on L regarding the North River housing project. The ads prominently feature firefighters.

What is motivating the Oceanside Fire Chief and Fire Union to advocate for a high-density, 585-unit housing project on rural land on a narrow two-lane North River Road? That area already experienced massive gridlock during the Lilac Fire.

Recently, it also was shut down for a one-car accident for many, many hours.  Is it logical to add more homes and cars to that area? According to experts, there is not a safe evacuation plan.

Could it be the $40,000 the fire union received from the developer? Sure makes one wonder why they would promote the destruction of farmland when NO on L saves it all.

And why would they promote thousands of more car trips a day on North River Road, a small two-lane road? Again, could it be that $40,000 the firefighter union received from the developer Integral?

Please know that the project is NOT a farm; it’s a dense housing project on rural agricultural land.

This is not the time to gamble with people’s health and safety.

We strongly urge your NO vote on L.
