CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad City Council has approved plans to install all-way stop controls at three intersections across the city.
City staff recommended the changes after determining the intersections met established criteria:
- Alicante Road and Galena Avenue
- Calle Hidalgo and Camino De Amigos
- Paseo Cerro and Paseo Descanso
The council voted unanimously to approve the ordinance at its July 28 meeting.
The ordinance was introduced during the council’s July 21 meeting before returning for final approval.
The city evaluated the intersections using criteria outlined in the state’s “Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices” in response to community requests and as part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety, according to city documents.
The project is expected to cost about $18,000 for all three locations.
The latest approvals follow similar traffic safety improvements authorized by the City Council in June. At that time, the council approved all-way stops at Batiquitos Drive and Aviara Drive, Camino De Los Coches and La Costa Avenue, and Tamarack Avenue and Sunnyhill Drive, along with a neighborhood traffic-calming plan for Unicornio Street.
According to the city, those intersections were selected after staff analyzed traffic volumes and patterns and determined all-way stops would improve pedestrian access, make it easier for drivers to enter busy roadways and help reduce speeding. Construction was scheduled to begin this summer.
