Vista cleans up with ‘Only Losers Litter’

VISTA — The Only Losers Litter campaign of picking up trash around Vista was started back in January 2017 by Sarah Spinks – with a further effort by a November group.

After quiet summer months, more than 50 participants with gloves and bags donned masks and kept a safe distance from each other to clean up the town.

Coordinator Alexis Panchevre gave the group instructions before it spread out from Frazier Farms in all directions, including Vista Village Creek.

The masked community crusaders gathered an amazing array of unsightly dumped detritus: plastic and glass containers, cigarette butts, beer cartons, straws, takeout containers, and lots of paper. The Only Losers Litter group filled a Frazier Farms dumpster to overflowing.

Mrs. Cindy Brooks (CSF advisor at Vista High School) and David Hanlon (Character Leaders advisor at Vista High) helped promote and share this opportunity for students to earn community service credit.

Both students and adults pitched in to help make a difference.

A positive movement has come back to life in Vista – can you join us and take the responsibility to put litter in its place? The next Only Losers Litter trash cleanup will be at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 20. The location will be announced soon. Visit facebook.com/onlyloserslitter1/events/ for more information.
