VISTA — Large new vinyl signs on the exterior of Trendy Department Store have been up for a few weeks, announcing that the store will be closing.
Located in the shopping center at the northeast corner of Civic Center Drive and South Santa Fe Avenue, the store has filled a niche between large chains and local thrift stores, offering bargain prices on clothing, jewelry, bridal gowns and tuxedos, as well as custom embroidery.
Site manager Noy Chanthaboury said the store will remain open through the end of the year. She said the property owner is retiring and has put the building up for sale.
The shopping center, where Trendy has operated for more than 20 years, also includes a vacant storefront where a Vons closed just over four years ago.
Chanthaboury did not have the store’s employee count available but said it is a small, family-owned business. A jewelry store operates within Trendy, but its manager said it is a separate business.
A second Trendy location in Escondido closed about five years ago, according to Chanthaboury.
