RANCHO SANTA FE — Grab a ride on an open-air trolley May 5 when the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club hosts their garden tour “Rambling Thru The Ranch.”
“We think of it as a really happy event. It’s a way that we can showcase beautiful gardens in Rancho Santa Fe, our beautiful town and to share what we have here,” said Helen DiZio, president of the Garden Club. “And we hope to have really good weather,” she added.
The garden club, which has been around since 1926, has held many, many garden tours, explained Steve DiZio, the club’s executive vice president. “But the concept of the ‘Rambling Thru The Ranch’… that was developed last year for the first time,” he said.
The tour promises to be more festive than in years past with the open-air trolleys again being used to transport patrons to five individual home gardens throughout the Ranch and an open-air market filled with live music and 40 artisan, food, home, garden and craft vendors.
The six trolleys running every 10 minutes, beginning at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., allows for patrons to linger in the gardens for as long or as little as they’d like before moving on to tour another of the gardens.
“The five different homes are going to show a variety of the different types of gardens within the community and it’s quite a wide spectrum from different types of gardens that are grown and used in these areas,” Steve said.
Admission is free to the open market and goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tickets for the trolley tours are $35 in advance available at ranchosantafegardentour.com, and $45 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will be going to benefit Archi’s Acres, a nonprofit organization that has created a program to help returning combat veterans obtain employment in the sustainable garden industry.
