RANCHO BERNARDO – A Rancho Bernardo man suspected of stabbing his stepfather to death over the weekend during a quarrel at their home was behind bars and facing a murder charge, authorities reported.
Pablo Johnson, 25, allegedly attacked and mortally wounded 61-year-old Michael Johnson at their house in the 12000 block of Caminito Campana shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Soon after arriving at the home just east of Interstate 15, patrol officers took the suspect into custody, then found his stepfather in a rear bedroom, suffering from stab injuries to his upper body, SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski said. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
“It is still early in the investigation, and detectives are still in the process of determining what events led up to the fatal stabbing of the victim,” Shebloski said Monday. “However, detectives have learned this case appears to be a tragic case of family violence. … On the evening of this
incident, (the suspect and victim) were involved in an apparent argument immediately preceding the fatal stabbing of the victim, (allegedly) by his stepson.”
Johnson was being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
