Rancho Bernardo brush fire prompts evacuations

RANCHO BERNARDO — Fire crews from multiple agencies are battling a brush fire that erupted in Rancho Bernardo this morning and urging evacuations in nearby areas.

The blaze broke out just before 9 a.m. near the intersection of Bernardo Rancho Drive and Camino del Norte near Interstate 15. One person was transported to the hospital with burn injuries, and the fire could burn up to 100 acres, San Diego Fire officials said on social media

As of 10:09 a.m., the fire has burned around four acres, and several areas are currently under evacuation orders and warnings.

“Hand crews are working to cut a line around the fire, and other crews are staged to protect homes,” said the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department on X (formerly Twitter), noting that approximately 175 firefighters from Cal Fire and San Marcos and Rancho Santa Fe fire departments were on scene to assist.

A full map of areas affected by the fire, referred to as the Bernardo Fire, is available online at fire.ca.gov/incidents/2025/1/22/bernardo-fire.

Evacuees are being told to go to a temporary evacuation point at 12080 Carmel Mountain Road.
