REGION — Robert “Bob” Yehling, known locally as an award-winning author, journalist, poet and editor, died on Oct. 8 at the age of 65.
Yehling was born on Aug. 15, 1959. He was a Carlsbad native.
Yehling was the founder and president of Word Journeys Literary Services. As an author and publisher, most of his work focused on innovation, technology, health, wellness, sports and the music and entertainment industries.
His professional career began at 16 years old when he became a sportswriter for a daily newspaper in Oceanside covering both amateur and professional surfing. Later on, he wrote and co-wrote several dozen books while ghostwriting and editing hundreds of other titles.
During his career, Yehling received awards including the Independent Publishers Book Award and the Sigma Delta Chi Society award for his writing and publishing.
In 2020, Yehling blended Word Journeys with The MarketBuilding Team to create Write Away Books alongside Rob Weinberg. Together, the two built an organization focused on providing editorial and marketing services for authors.
According to Weinberg, Yehling helped “countless authors publish their books and stories” over his 45-year career.
“Mr. Yehling’s endless passion for writing and his contribution to independent publishing will be sorely missed,” Weinberg said.
Write Away Books will establish the Robert Yehling Young Authors Scholarship in his honor, which will be dedicated to encouraging young authors to develop and expand their writing skills.
