Oceanside Museum of Art presents ART AFTER DARK — a night of ocean-inspired art and fashion

OCEANSIDE, CA – Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA), North County’s premier art destination, will transform into a vibrant, ocean-inspired wonderland for the much-anticipated return of ART AFTER DARK on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 10 p.m.

This year’s signature after-hours art party is inspired by OMA’s upcoming PST.ART exhibition, Transformative Currents: Art and Action in the Pacific Ocean, and invites guests from across Southern California and beyond to celebrate the beauty and importance of ocean sustainability with an epic party, costume contest, runway, and live entertainment.

“ART AFTER DARK promises to be a night where guests not only celebrate art, but become a part of it,” adds Maria Mingalone, Executive Director of Oceanside Museum of Art. “We call on guests to share their artistic talents and enjoy a memorable night of dancing, competition, and celebration.”

With a focus on ocean sustainability and creativity, this event is meant for all Halloween lovers, haute courtiers, LARPers, Ren Fair fans, cosplayers, make-up and special FX aficionados, and fashion mavens.

Guests are encouraged to unleash their creativity by arriving in ocean-themed costumes, becoming the centerpiece of the night’s entertainment. The costume competition, judged by a distinguished panel of experts in fashion and the arts, promises to be a highlight. Categories include the Avant-Garde Prize, Transformative Currents Prize, Sustainable Innovation Prize and the Audience Favorite Prize.

Admission begins at 6 pm, welcoming all guests and VIPs to experience our immersive Transformative Currents exhibition which sets the stage for an unforgettable night of art and entertainment. As the night progresses, the runway showcase will begin, featuring guests’ most imaginative and impressive costumes.

The judging panel is made up of experts in fashion and the arts, including model and drag queen Amber St. James, Jan Arnold, and Comic-Con Masquerade coordinator Martin Jaquish. Prizes for costume contest winners include cash awards and other prizes to be announced.

Throughout the evening, attendees can enjoy music from a live DJ and band, sample delectable offerings from award-winning food trucks, and sip on premium cocktails. Selfie stations will be strategically placed around the museum, encouraging guests to capture their favorite moments with iconic art pieces from the Transformative Currents exhibition.

The VIP experience offers an additional layer of exclusivity, with front-row access to the costume show and a private lounge with refreshments. This intimate setting will provide VIP guests with a more personal encounter with the evening’s festivities and a sneak peek into the museum’s future developments.
