MiraCosta College seeks new bond oversight committee members

OCEANSIDE — MiraCosta College is seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on a committee of community leaders who will operate as the oversight committee for the districts’ college facilities bond program.

On Nov. 8, 2016, voters residing within the MiraCosta Community College District passed Measure MM, a $455 million bond measure that authorizes funding for needed repairs, upgrades and new construction projects at MiraCosta College. Proposition 39 required a 55% supermajority for approval, and Measure MM passed by 62.39%.

After the bond measure passed, California law required the MiraCosta Community College District Board of Trustees to appoint an Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee to work with the district.

The purpose of the Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee includes the following:

  • Inform the public about the expenditure of bond revenues
  • Review and report on the proper expenditure of taxpayers’ money for school construction
  • Advise the public as to the district’s compliance with Proposition 39 requirements as contained in the state constitution.

The board will appoint applicants to the seven-member committee based on criteria established by Prop 39. The district is seeking applications to fulfill a two-year role for one at-large community representative and one senior citizens’ representative.

Before applying, review the committee bylaws at miracosta.edu/icboc for more information about the committee’s role and responsibilities – then complete the application.

Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Sept. 30 and sent to Melanie Haynie of Administrative Services, MiraCosta Community College District, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056 or via email at [email protected].
