ENCINITAS — Encinitas’ four mayoral candidates will meet Thursday night for the second forum of the campaign season.
The forum, hosted by the Leucadia-Encinitas Town Council, is the first to exclusively feature the mayoral candidates: current appointed Mayor Kristin Gaspar, Councilman Tony Kranz, former Mayor Sheila Cameron, independent journalist Alex Fidel and local engineer Mike Bawany.
They are seeking to become the city’s first elected mayor, as voters will elect the winner to a two-year term in the top seat.
Leucadia has a number of pertinent issues facing potential voters, including the Leucadia Streetscape, a proposed beautification, parking improvement and traffic calming project along the town’s 2.5-mile stretch of Coast Highway. Some residents oppose the project, which they believe will lead to, among other things, the commercialization of the eclectic neighborhood.
The League of Women Voters will moderate the event, which is from 7 to 9 p.m. at the San Diego County Encinitas Branch Library, 540 Cornish Drive.
The same groups will host and moderate a forum for the four candidates for city council Oct. 9.
