VISTA — The California Energy Commission joined city leaders Oct. 2 to celebrate a significant expansion of American Lithium Energy’s manufacturing facility in Vista.
The grand opening showcased a factory that more than tripled in size, from 23,000 square feet to 82,000 square feet.
The expansion was funded in part by two CEC grants totaling more than $13 million. The firm’s proprietary nano Si 18650 cell will be manufactured at the expanded Vista factory, helping California meet its green energy goals.
The batteries are currently used in hybrid-powered aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellites, military wearables and energy storage.
American Lithium Energy employs more than 100 people at its Vista plant. Jiang Fan founded the company in 2006 to produce innovative power supplies for the U.S. Army.
