Former Vista council member Ted Cole dies at age 72

VISTA — The City of Vista is paying its respects to former City Councilmember Ted Cole, who passed away this weekend at age 72, remembering his spirit of service, love for the city, and ongoing local engagement.

Cole died on Dec. 14 surrounded by his family, according to a press release from the city.

He served eight years on the Vista City Council over the course of two terms from 1990 to 1998, and was known for his “integrity, thoughtfulness, and steadfast commitment to the wellbeing of the city and its residents,” the city said.

“Ted Cole served Vista with integrity, humility, and a genuine love for this community,” Mayor John Franklin said. “His eight years on the City Council reflected his strong values, thoughtful leadership, and deep sense of service.”

Cole’s care for the community extended long after he had concluded his service on the council, Franklin noted. As recently as last month, Cole spoke out on local issues during public comment at City Council meetings.

“That kind of commitment says everything about who he was. Ted leaves behind a legacy of kindness and service that will be remembered and respected by the City of Vista for generations,” Franklin said.

Cole also served as president of Blp Biolab Services, an antibody production facility based in Vista, for 30 years. Outside of work, he was known as a nature enthusiast who enjoyed watching and feeding hummingbirds.

Cole is survived by his wife Vicki, their son Pierce, and many other family members and friends. Details are pending regarding a planned celebration of life in January, the city said.
