ENCINITAS — The City of Encinitas is receiving an increasing number of reports of energy-efficiency and electrification scams, according to a fraud alert posted Monday on the city’s Instagram page.
Residents have reported encounters with scammers who claim to represent government officials and promote misleading deals and programs. The city said no contractors are offering energy efficiency or electrification programs on its behalf.
If residents encounter anyone attempting to collect financial or personal information, enter their homes to “check electric panels” or “evaluate which appliance they qualify for,” or claiming to administer an energy efficiency rebate program, the city recommends contacting the agency directly to verify the claim and reporting any suspected fraud.
“It is recommended to avoid using any contact information provided by the solicitor and instead rely on a phone number or website known to be legitimate,” the post states.
