ESCONDIDO – Any decision on whether to close the Post Office on Escondido Boulevard has been postponed for the time being, according to a USPS spokesperson, though no reason behind any decision was given.
A closure study, which was completed at the end of last year, looked at the viability of closing the Escondido site. A public meeting held last September at the site saw customers express anger over the possible closure.
The post office’s lease at the site has been extended through the end of this May.
A closure study that was scheduled to begin in January on the Leucadia Post Office has also been held off until any decision is made on the Escondido location.
The USPS has extended the lease on the Leucadia site through September 2018, with a 180-day termination clause.
The Postal Service has recently implemented a yearlong pilot program, opening Post Office locations in some Staples stores, including one in Escondido.
