Battle of the Bands spotlights North County youth

LEUCADIA — An eclectic array of Encinitas’ finest young talent will have the chance to battle it out for a spot in the line-up of performers at Summer Fun on the 101, Leucadia’s music festival.

The stage is set for the young musicians of Encinitas to compete for prizes and a spot at this year’s “Summer Fun on the 101: Leucadia’s Music Festival.” The battle will take place from noon to 4 p.m. May 3, on the north side of Seaweed and Gravel, 1144 N. Coast Highway 101.
Young musicians interested in entering should contact the Leucadia Main Street Association via e-mail at [email protected] or [email protected], no later than April 27. Space is limited and bands will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Each band will have 15 minutes to perform. See more information and rules at
At last year’s competition, judges were impressed by the vocals and rhythms from “Don’t Tell Mom.” The fans couldn’t resist the power pop of “Triceratropical,” crowning them the People’s Choice out of seven groups competing.
“We can’t wait to see what new acts and veteran rockers come out for this year’s event,” said Michael Schmitt, Leucadia 101 Main Street promotional chairman. “This event brings the whole community together to celebrate our young talent. We love fostering artists of all ages in Leucadia,” said Carris Rhodes, executive director of the Leucadia 101 Main Street.
Bring a beach chair and blanket and applaud the next generation of musicians. This is a free event for all ages.
