OCEANSIDE — Author Gary Soto will be a special guest at MiraCosta College’s 2013 Reading Festival, to be held 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 26, and 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 at the college’s Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Ave., Oceanside.Soto is a Mexican-American author and poet, and a lifetime lover of books and reading. He grew up working the fields of the San Joaquin Valley and in factories in Fresno. He is the author of many poetry collections and novels for adults and children, including “New and Selected Poems,” a 1995 finalist for both the Los Angeles Times Book Award and the National Book Award.
“You can always spot bright people. They are reading a book,” he is fond of saying.
