5.2 earthquake rattles county

REGION — Early Friday morning a 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit 13.7 north northwest of Borrego Springs.

The earthquake hit at 1:04 a.m., according to the USGS, with perceived shaking in the area of the epicenter being described as “strong,” and the possibility of damage there as “light.” The shaking could be felt in cities around North County, including Escondido down into San Diego.

Two smaller earthquakes with a 3.5 magnitude followed shortly after the first at 1:06 a.m. and  the other at 1:33 a.m.

The USGS doesn’t show any other shakings at this time.
