Orange Glen High School students show off culinary and print skills

ESCONDIDO — Students in the culinary arts and print and graphics classes at Orange Glen High School teamed up in late September to offer hands-on experiences demonstrating that demonstrate the skills they’re learning under the career technical education programs.

Printing and graphics students led the first-ever Patriot Printworks event, during which students, staff and guests were invited to tour the school’s printshop and purchase student-designed products, including custom apparel and printed materials.

According to the school district, Patriot Printworks provided students with industry experience and allowed them to apply real-world skills in manufacturing, product development and small business management.

At the same time, culinary arts students ran the Patriot Café, offering a restaurant-style experience that treats guests to a three-course meal. During this event, students gain practical, hands-on training in both front and back-of-house restaurant operations, preparing them for careers in the culinary industry.

While Patriot Printworks is brand new, Patriot Café has been operating at Orange Glen High School since 2015.

With both events, the school district aims to highlight the talent and creativity of students in its career technical education programs while empowering them to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios, giving them the skills they need for post-graduation.
