North Coast Singers invite students to August audition call

ENCINITAS — The San Diego North Coast Singers choral group is seeking music-oriented students from second to twelfth grades for its three youth choruses.

Based in Encinitas, North Coast Singers provides choral music education through live performance opportunities and a culturally diverse repertoire spanning classical, folk, jazz and contemporary genres.

The organization’s fall season begins in September. Interested students can attend open auditions on Aug. 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. or make an appointment for a brief voice check. No experience is required.

According to the nonprofit chorus, participating in choir can help local students improve vocal technique, learn harmonization, build confidence and make new friends.

Rehearsals for the three youth ensembles – Giocoso, Brioso and Capella – are held weekly in Encinitas.

“North Coast Singers is a community of kids who enjoy singing together and develop long-lasting friendships through music making,” said Artistic Director Melissa Keylock. “Our singers use their voices to understand themselves and their own complex emotions, while encouraging and inspiring others by sharing their music at concerts and community events.”

Keylock has an extensive background in youth choral education, having taught 11 years at the Princeton Girlchoir and previously worked at the American Boychoir School, Rider University and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.
