Military academy, Rotary Club to present virtual Veterans Day ceremony

CARLSBAD — More than 200 Army and Navy Academy cadets and the Rotary Club of Carlsbad are joining forces to present a virtual Veterans Day Military Review, November 11. The event will be staged at the academy’s Stephen M. Bliss Stadium and available for the public to view here.

The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is sponsored jointly by the academy and the local Rotary club. Now in its 12th year, it has become one of the top events honoring the armed forces in all of San Diego County and has been Carlsbad’s official Veterans Day observance.

The guest speaker will be Congressman Mike Levin, whose 49th Congressional District includes Carlsbad.

“We’re using virtual technology this year to welcome Carlsbad and surrounding communities to this ceremony,” said retired Army Maj. Gen. Arthur Bartell, the Academy’s President. “The significance of this event, whether it’s virtual or in-person, is due in large part to our partnership with the Rotary Club of Carlsbad. Our cadets are working hard to ensure it will be better than ever. Our veterans and the community deserve no less.”

Founded in 1910, the Army and Navy Academy is a college preparatory boarding school for young men in grades 7 through 12. It is the only private boarding school in San Diego County and the only private military academy for high school-age students in California and surrounding states.

The Rotary Club of Carlsbad was chartered in 1939 and meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Hilton Garden Inn.
