Library offers student scholarships

CARDIFF-BY-THE-SEA — Five $1,500 scholarships will be awarded by the Friends of the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library branch, to graduating high school seniors who reside in ZIP codes 92007 or 92024.  For the past 10 years, the Friends have provided scholarships to students from Cardiff, Encinitas, Leucadia and Olivenhain.

Scholarship applications must include a maximum 500-word essay by the student describing the effect of library experiences, the student’s reasons and plans for pursuing higher education in 2015, and describing special interests and extra-curricular activities. In addition, applications must contain two letters of recommendation from non-family members, a copy of a public library card, proof of residence in the designated ZIP codes, and a copy of the current high school ID card.
Applications are available at the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library, in downloadable form at friendscardifflibrary.org, and at school counselor’s offices. The original application and supporting documents should be sent to: Scholarship Panel, Friends of the Cardiff by the Sea Library, P.O. Box 657, Cardiff by the Sea, CA 92007, or hand-delivered to the Cardiff Library at 2081 Newcastle Ave., Cardiff.
All applications, with all supporting documentation, must be received not later than 6 p.m. May 1 at the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library.
The top five candidates will be notified by May 29.
