Letter: A Christian perspective on UFOs

Dear Editor-in-Chief,

I’d like to comment on one of the year’s top stories (Year in Review, Jan. 6), specifically the UFO photo. The military has been declassifying lots of documents about their investigations into UFOs.

When I was studying for my MA in Christian Apologetics (defense of the faith using legal and historical evidence), one of the founding professors was Walter Martin, who’s one of the world’s foremost authorities concerning the cults and occult.

He wrote his seminal work, “Kingdom of the Cults,” and founded the Christian Research Institute, and hosted the syndicated “Bible Answer Man” radio program.

One of his fields of research involved UFOs, in which he collected eyewitness accounts. Martin discovered a common theological thread articulated by the ETs.

They didn’t affirm a biblical worldview, but rather one of a New Age or Cosmic Christ. Actress Shirley MacLaine’s autobiography, “Out on a Limb” documents this.

Martin concluded that ETs are actually demons, trying to lure people away from the Truth.

For a detailed presentation, listen to Martin’s lecture, “UFOs: Friend or Foe?” on YouTube.
