Community shares love of reading on Valentine’s Day

SOLANA BEACH — Paul Ecke Central and Solana Vista elementary schools were among county schools visited by Rolling Readers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income, at-risk children enjoy reading Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and reading aloud to children with several business and education leaders, elected officials and celebrities acting as Honorary Readers.

“Share Your Love of Reading began as a one-day campaign last February. Thanks to the generous support of our title sponsor Mission Federal Credit Union, this year we’re making it a one-month long campaign,” said Hoa Quach, who is on the board of directors for Rolling Readers.

Some of the Honorary Readers this year included San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, and radio personalities Frankie from 93.3 and Haze from 94.1.
