CARLSBAD — Hospice of the North Coast is accepting reservations for the few remaining open slots for Camp H.O.P.E., a Healing Outdoor Play Experience, taking place from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Green Oak Ranch in Vista.
The camp provides therapeutic outdoor activities for grieving children (at least 7 years old) and their families in a serene and fun environment. The registration fee is $50 per family. KOCT channel 18 will feature Camp H.O.P.E. on “Oceanside Spectrum,” airing at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. July 19 through July 30. The show also can be accessed at www.koct.org and www.hospicenorthcoast.org.
According to HNC’s Director of Bereavement Services, Melanie Barker, Camp H.O.P.E. can be the first step to healing for young children. “They pan for gold, pet gentle animals and share the camaraderie of other grieving children in what might be the first day of fun they’ve enjoyed for a very long time. Many activities are planned for adults as well, including massage and meditation. We will present innovative healing experiences revolving around the theme of centering, a meditation practice in which we still our minds to find peace amid stressful circumstances. This practice helps the bereaved recognize grief as a normal process, integrate the death of their loved one, find new meaning and purpose in life and begin their journey toward healing.”
The nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego.
