Art show highlights student accomplishments

RANCHO SANTA FE — Canyon Crest Academy Foundation’s Festival of the Arts 2009 will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe.
Canyon Crest Academy Foundation is offering corporate sponsorships, underwriting opportunities, and program advertising for the festival. The festival will showcase the talent of students enrolled in Envision, the Arts at CCA and feature a variety of exhibits and performances in the visual, performing and digital arts. Entry wristbands are being pre-sold online at www.canyoncrestfoundation.org, $5 for students and $10 for adults. All wristbands purchased before the day of the event will receive one free raffle ticket with the chance to win exciting raffle prizes. Adding to the day’s events will be artists and musicians from the local San Diego art scene. In addition, Susan deVincent, KyXy Morning Show host and CCA parent, will make a special guest appearance. DeVincent will also be the Mistress of Ceremonies at the foundation’s annual gala on April 24.
Staged throughout the Morgan Run property, the festival will include an art gallery, featuring works of art created by CCA Envision and Conservatory students and available for sale. The art has been produced under the direction of Julie Rais, the Envision Digital/Fine Arts coordinator. Cinema Showcase will run an all-day original production as well as five film screenings by CCA Envision Film students directed by Mark Raines, Envision Cinema coordinator. Music on the Green will encompass several open-air concerts by CCA Envision’s own Jazz Band and Jazz Combos, led by Amy Villanova, Envision Instrumental Music coordinator and band instructor.
Theater Cove will include performances of “Romeo and Juliet” and “The History of Us” presented by Envision Dance students under the leadership of Tracy Yates, CCA Envision Director and Envision Dance coordinator and dance instructor. Theater Cove will also present encore performances of excerpts from recent theater shows led by Michael Schwartz, Envision Theater coordinator and drama teacher. Students enrolled in Envision Vocal Music will also be performing under the direction of Anne Whattoff, the Envision Vocal Music coordinator.
“This is one event not to be missed,” Annette Farabaugh, CCA Foundation Board member and Festival co-chairman said. “These students have amazing, nationally recognized talents. The festival gives CCA families and the local community a chance to see, hear and experience it all in one day. Festival goers will enjoy some one-of-a-kind raffle prizes and many special surprises.”
